Goulash Soup Anyone?? Sound familiar??Never heard of it??
Goulash Hungarian soup/stew of meat & vegetables (especially potatoes) seasoned with paprika & other spices (very popular among herdsmen in Hungary) Herdsmen is Gulyas in Hungarian,so that's wehere the dish's name comes from.Goulash also popular in Romania,Czech Republic,Austria & Slovakia. The herdsmen made it in a cast-iron kettle hung above open fire, out in the fields.
Hungarian goulash is neither a soup nor a stew,it's somewhere in betweeen.Though in Hungary it's considered rather to be a soup than a stew.If cooked in the proper way goulash has a nice and evenly thick consistency, almost like a sauce. In Hungary goulash is eaten as a main dish.
