Carbonara (the Italian word for charcoal burner),some believe that the dish wast first made as a hearty meal for charcoal workers.The etymology gave rise to the term "coal miner's spaghetti" which is used to refer to spaghetti alla carbonara in parts of United States.It has evenbeen suggested that it was created by or as a tribute to the Carbonari (charcoalmen) a secrey society prominent in unifucation of Italy.

Did you know there's also Carbonara Di Po a comune(municipality) in the Province of Mantua in the Italian region Lombardy.
